The Safer Drinking Team has over 10 years experience of training professionals from a wide variety of disciplines (young people, health, community safety) in our county.
We are funded to provide FREE training to Luton organisations (costs available on request for organisations outside of Luton).
Join us here at asc (see 2011/2 Training Programme below) or we can come to you (groups of 6 or more). Details of typical training courses that we offer are listed here, but we are happy to customise training to suit your needs, both in terms of content and duration.

Latest figures show that 1 in 4 adults (aged 16 – 74) in the UK is a hazardous drinker. However, discussing alcohol use can be very difficult. This session aims to give professionals the confidence to raise the subject and provide effective interventions for those wishing to access help.

Studies suggest up to 12 million of us use alcohol as a way to relieve stress and relax. Ensure that you and the people you work with know how alcohol affects their minds and have the right tools to help someone work towards changing their drinking patterns.
Older & Wiser - Alcohol and older people
- Why older people are more vulnerable to the effects of alcohol
- How alcohol can affect medication
- Minimal intervention (raise the subject, motivate to change, signpost for help)
- Consider harm minimisation tips and techniques
Alcohol is an increasing problem in older people, but some times harder to detect. This course will give you the confidence to raise the subject and offer practical advice.

It is estimated that approx. 10,000 children in Bedfordshire are living with a problem-drinking parent. This course looks at the difficulties these young people face and how you can help them manage the situation
